With the technology presenting itself today, long distance relationships are becoming easier and give more options for people to choose from. The trick is surviving a long distance relationship.

Maturity is a big factor that comes to play.

Long distance relationships are not the same as a regular relationship because they require more effort.

They are recommended for people who want a serious relationship, not a playmate.

The meaning behind a long distance relationship is much more than what people can see. Being with someone who is quite a distance away means loving him or her enough to say, “It is okay that you are not here, I still want you.”

Anyone going through a long distance relationship is actually willing to fight for the love by putting up with the distance for the smiles, laughs, and time spent together. No matter how many miles in between, devotion holds it together.

Communication is key in a long distance relationship; they are the roots that hold it together.

Shoot a couple texts in between classes or at lunch.

Although texting is quick and easy, talking on the phone is one of the most important ways to communicate.

It can be a good way to reconnect and have that strong conversation that is needed. Be sure to listen and focus on his or her voice. By talking on the phone, more words are able to come out which may help forget about the distance.

Random calls are the best. Leave a voice mail to surprise them, whether it is a long thoughtful message or a simple “I love you.”

Technology helps cheat around the boundaries of not being able to spend time together. Use Skype to video chat with each other.

There is a ‘Share Screen’ option, which allows users to show their own screen to the other person.

Ask them out on a date and spend it watching TV shows or movies together. Leave Skype open at night and sleep together. With technology, time spent together throughout the distance can be given back.

Remember, little things matter. Type up or write a letter and send it when an anniversary comes up.

Make a video filled with music and pictures. On Facebook, create random statuses about them or even post something on his or her wall letting them know you are thinking about them. Send a random, sweet text pouring your heart out. Options never end, just be creative.

Trust is another vital root to have a successful long distance relationship. Never bottle things up because it can stir up a bumpy road.

Whenever feelings are insecure about something, open up.

While being opened up to, comfort and reassure.

Ask before going out; let them know what your plans are. Always put them into consideration by making an effort to make sure they are feeling alright with the situation.

Dodge anything that could make them uncomfortable. Allow them talk to a friend when you are out and about, even a picture would do. When trust gets rattled up, even for a second, it can cause many problems in a long distance relationship. Never be hesitant to take certain steps to avoid a mess.

A long distance relationship is not the horror that stories make it out to be. It is as real as any other relationship most of the time. Sometimes, because of the distance, it can be a lot stronger.

Fighting for a loved one by entering a long distance relationship sends a great message.

Even throughout the tears and laughs, the joys and hardships, it will all be worth it when that moment comes to finally step out in front of each other. At that moment, the purpose of the wait will finally be realized.
